Consistency of Actions
When does a dish taste best? When it has a perfect consistency! The same goes with the relationships in our life. For a relationship to last longer and remain exciting, we need to ensure that we are consistent with our efforts. It is important to do the little things in our life which keeps the spark alive, like having movie nights with them, going for drives, having ice cream & specials together, taking those calm & peaceful walks with them, dropping them safe, asking about how their day went, taking care of their small-small things. These efforts keep the Love pure, the spark alive, and create the space to nurture unconditional Love! Many people confuse consistency with being around for the other person 24/7 or being available all the time, which is neither practical nor true. Consistency has many dimensions to it, like the consistency of commitment and what is required. Few things are considered to be there 24/7. If we miss it even for a minute, it’s regarded as a blast only. Like being loyal, loyalty is something that is deemed to be there all the time. If you find that the other person is not being trustworthy even for a minute, or if they found you being disloyal to them even for a short period, it will be a major screw up. On the other hand, if you are not bringing anything new to the relationship, you are not exploring yourself, the relationship will become boring. Here too, ironically, consistency works differently. You have to be consistent with yourself to keep becoming a better version of yourself. If there is no room for changes, surprises, new learnings, and unexpected things that excite you, then it can slowly kill your relationship.
A successful relationship is not always made up of the greatness of the two people’s Love for each other. It is made up of tiny consistent actions and gestures of Love towards each other. Consistent efforts increase the chemistry between two people. Because Love stays there, that’s for sure, but it is also true that it takes a backseat from time to time. It is a bitter-sweet truth that Love is not the one who always gets to drive the vehicle of a relationship; it too gets tired after a period. It goes for resting on the backseat, and that’s when commitment, efforts and responsibility interchange the driver seat. And by doing so, Love gets enough rest to come back to the driving seat with its freshness, excitement and passion for getting control of the steering once again! Sounds practical, right? Because it’s a fact! None of us can go on with our relationship, just with Love in our heart; no! The practicalities of life and human behaviour will make it hard for you at times to keep doing what you do. You would not want to do it; you will get tier, become dull, etc. But when you remember your commitment, you will be able to do it even if you are tired, even if the Love is sleeping! Why? Because at such times, the commitment will drive you. To be consistent, you have to be honest first, honest to yourself, the other person, and the relationship.
Consistency of behaviour: Your consistent actions in a relationship gives reliability to the other person. All of us automatically feel more secure about being in such a relationship. Suppose you try to get into a relationship purely based on expectations and demands. In that case, you will be disappointed and disgust, and you can’t blame the other person for it. It will happen because you will forget to enjoy their presence; you’ll forget how valuable it is to have them in your life. The only thing you are paying attention to is the things or attention you are getting from them and not anything else! Of course, a point will come where they’ll get tired of it. Then there is nothing left to hold onto. Being consistent with your efforts in the relationship shows how serious you take the relationship and how important it is to be in it. It shows your commitment. We all underestimate the power of consistency. We don’t realize that being consistent for a long time can beat any temporary madness, intense short-term things. The problem is, we don’t want to be consistent. We do things for a while and expect them to turn out into something great! Really? How? Greatness surely takes time! We easily give up on people, on relations, on life. Without being consistent with anything, we conclude that it’s not worth it. It can’t get any better. We are used to concluding on our own! We all have heard that efforts count! N these efforts that we put in every day shows our consistency towards anything important to us; this is the point where transformation occurs! Of course, a little communication has to be there because you want the other person to know and realize that these efforts that you are putting are for them, to keep them in your life.
“People like Consistency. Whether it’s a store or a restaurant, they want to come in and see what you are famous for.” – Millard Drexler. Your consistency towards the relationship shows why they fall for you? What makes you truly special? What keeps you two going? The things that we do for each other are the things that keep us reminding how special and worthy we are as a person! It always gives us the confidence to get better for ourselves and for them!! Consistency in efforts and appreciation of those Little actions makes it all perfect! If you already have that person in your life who is consistent with you about their Love, do not forget to appreciate them, to love them back. It does not have to be only your bf/gf; this person can be in any form! It can be your mother with her consistent efforts and commitment towards taking care of you. It can be your best friend sticking around you for a long time. It can be your brother/sister constantly supporting you over things. It can be your father being a constant silent supporter and your strength. Never limit your emotions respective to the particulars. It makes it hard to see who we have, what we have. Being appreciated surely makes a difference in people’s lives. Many of us don’t realize that appreciation and gratitude are a must in life! It keeps us reminding what we have, as we all are busy wishing and wanting for the things we don’t have in our lives. The happiness, the peace, the affection that we seek in our life all comes with gratitude! It washes out all the disappointments from our lives and helps keep them away!
PS: This blog is dedicated to my mother, who’s the constant of my life, my best friend(Rogue), who has been consistent with his efforts towards our friendship, and the Love of my life who tries hard every single time to take care of my little weird things! I am grateful for having them in my life!
